The XR in SEROQUEL XR stands for extended-release. This means that medicine is delivered around the clock. SEROQUEL XR is taken once daily as prescribed by your health care professional.
Take SEROQUEL XR by mouth, with a light meal or without food. SEROQUEL XR tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, chewed, or crushed. If you feel you need to stop SEROQUEL XR, talk with your health care professional first.

Medicines like SEROQUEL XR can increase the risk of death in elderly people who have memory loss (dementia). SEROQUEL XR is not for treating psychosis in the elderly with dementia.
Call a health care provider right away if you or your family member has any of the following symptoms, especially if they are new, worse, or worry you:
Attempts to commit suicide
New or worse depression
New or worse anxiety
Feeling very agitated or restless
Panic attacks
Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
New or worse irritability
Acting aggressive, being angry, or violent
Acting on dangerous impulses
An extreme increase in activity and talking (mania)
Other unusual changes in behavior or mood
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose. Just take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time unless your doctor tells you to. If you are not sure about your dosing, call your health care professional.
Take SEROQUEL XR only as your doctor prescribes. Your doctor may recommend that you take SEROQUEL XR once daily in the evening (for example, 3-4 hours before bedtime).
SEROQUEL XR should be taken without food or with a light meal (approximately 300 calories).
Everyone responds differently to therapy, so try to be patient and follow the directions of your health care professional. It is important to take SEROQUEL XR exactly as your health care professional has prescribed and to report your progress to your doctor.
